Teaching Moving Bodies: Anatomy for Yogis
The purpose of this workshop is to reveal functional anatomy to yoga teachers and practitioners.
To do this, we’ll use visual and “hands on” techniques to experience a sense of our bones, joint spaces, and muscles. We will explore the nervous system, connective tissues, and Anatomy Trains (the work of Tom Myers).
Through this program we’ll learn how to see structural variations in our students and consider common movement issues that we run in to through our modern yoga postures practice.
Weekend 1 will be focused on the bones, muscles, and planes of movement. Along with learning the specifics of the structure and movement of our spines, we’ll also explore the neurology of contracting and stretching our muscles.
Weekend 2 will explore the limbs (arms/shoulders/hands and legs/hips/feet), connective tissues, Anatomy Trains, and the vagus nerve.
Teaching Moving Bodies is the anatomy and physiology workshop for Valley Yoga Centre’s 200hr Teacher Training Program. This program is also available for 40 Continuing Education credits (with Yoga Alliance) for yoga teachers with existing certification.
